The viral Smash Burgers have been taking over the internet and I have to say, it’s probably my favortie way to eat a burger now. But I  had to switch it up a little and share something a little more creative/different- you will not regret making these!

Ingredients:

I always get my salmon at Trader Joe’s- it’s fresh and reasonably priced. I was also able to snag all of the other ingredients there too!

You can use whatever kind of tortilla you want. I did go with a carb balance one. I thought it tasted great, but I would have liked a little more cruch. Next time, I will probably go with a flour tortilla to get that crunch I was looking for. Such a HUGE sacrifice to save a few carbs, am I right?!? haha

for this you will need to pick up:

  • salmon- fresh, not frozen will work best.
  • minced garlic
  • dijon mustard
  • lemon juice
  • lemon zest
  • fresh dill- please buy fresh, this recipe will not be the same without fresh dill!
  • panko bread crumbs- or whatever you have at home- italian or gluten free will work!
  • salt + pepper

For the Tzatziki:

  • shredded cucumbers– I  used a cheese grater to grate about 1/2 of an english cucumber. Don’t forget to squeeze out the excess liquid that the cucumber produces once it’s shredded- I use my hands to squeeze it out.
  • plain greek yogurt
  • mayonaise
  • lemon juice
  • lemon zest
  • minced garlic
  • salt + pepper
  • dried chives

The Prep:

You will need a food processor to make these. You could use your hands or a potato smasher to break up the salmon, but the food processor is such a great gadget to have on hand. I’ve linked a decently priced one in this post, if you don’t already have one!

  • Add all of the ingredients for the tzatziki sauce into a small bowl, mix well- place in the fridge while you make the burger mixture.

***I just used a cheese grater to shred the cucumber

  • Slice your salmon in to 1 inch chunks.
  • Add the salmon, garlic, dijon, bread crumbs, dill, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt and pepper into the food processor and lightly mix, just until the salmon gets broken up and the ingredients are well mixed. Do not over mix the salmon or it will be too mushy.

If you do not have a food processor, you can use a meat smasher or potato smasher (or your hands) to break up the salmon.

  • Roll the salmon mixture into 4 balls/patties
  • Over medium high heat, drizzle about 1/2 tbsp of olive oil into a pan. Add 2 burgers to the pan, depending on the size of your pan.
  • Place one tortilla on top of each patty and press firmly down to flaten the burger. If you have a meat smasher, that will work great, if not, just use your hands!
  • Cook for about 4 minutes before filpping over the burgers to cook the tortilla side of the burger for another 3-4 minutes or until the salmon is done and the tortilla is crispy.
  • Once the burgers are done, add some Tzatziki sauce to the top, garnish with sliced red onion and more fresh dill!

Serve with a side salad or fresh veggies!

    ENJOY!
