These PB&J Yogurt Bowls are basically my favorite childhood sandwich turned into a creamy, high-protein breakfast — and I am very into it.
I’ve been trying to get back into a better routine now that the kids are back in school, and having a few easy, protein-packed breakfasts and snacks I can throw together makes such a difference. I love something that feels a little fun but still keeps me full, and this one checks all the boxes.
The base is thick Greek yogurt mixed with peanut butter powder and a little honey, so you get that peanut butter flavor while keeping the bowl light and packed with protein. Then comes the best part: a dollop of strawberry jam, fresh strawberries and a drizzle of warm, creamy peanut butter over the top.
It tastes like PB&J — just in breakfast form.
And honestly, this is one of those recipes that barely feels like a recipe. You can throw it together in about five minutes, customize it with whatever you have, and even prep the yogurt mixture ahead of time for busy mornings.
Why You’ll Love These PB&J Yogurt Bowls
There are so many complicated high-protein breakfast recipes out there, but sometimes I just want something I can make without turning on the oven or dirtying a bunch of dishes.
That’s exactly why I love this one.
These yogurt bowls are:
- Ready in about 5 minutes
- High in protein
- Made with simple ingredients
- Easy to meal prep
- Naturally customizable
- Great for breakfast or a snack
- Sweet enough to satisfy that PB&J craving
The combination of creamy peanut butter yogurt, sweet strawberry jam and fresh berries is SO good. And that little drizzle of melted peanut butter on top makes the whole thing feel way more indulgent than it actually is.
A High-Protein Twist on PB&J
If you grew up eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, you already know why this combination works.
Instead of bread, we’re starting with thick Greek yogurt. I like using Oikos Greek yogurt because it gives the bowl a really creamy texture while adding plenty of protein.
I mix peanut butter powder directly into the yogurt along with a drizzle of honey. The peanut butter powder adds tons of peanut flavor without making the yogurt overly heavy or thick.
Then I swirl in strawberry jam rather than completely mixing it into the yogurt. You get little pockets of jam in each bite, which makes it taste even more like an actual PB&J.
Fresh strawberries add a little freshness and texture, and melted creamy peanut butter brings everything together.
Don’t skip that drizzle!
Perfect for Busy Mornings
This is exactly the kind of breakfast I need during the school year.
Mornings can get chaotic getting everyone out the door, and once I get home, I usually want something quick before getting into work, recipes, laundry and everything else that needs to happen around the house.
I can make this bowl in less time than it takes to make my iced coffee.
You can also mix up a larger batch of the peanut butter Greek yogurt and keep it in the refrigerator. In the morning, scoop some into a bowl and add your toppings.
Easy.
Make It Your Own
One of the best things about yogurt bowls is that you really don’t have to measure everything perfectly.
Want it more peanut buttery? Add another spoonful of peanut butter powder.
Want it sweeter? Add a little more honey or jam.
You could also add granola if you want some crunch, chia seeds or hemp hearts for a little extra nutrition, or sliced banana for a peanut butter-banana-strawberry situation.
And you definitely don’t have to stick with strawberry jam. Raspberry, blackberry or mixed berry preserves would all be delicious.
Can I Meal Prep PB&J Yogurt Bowls?
Yes! I would just keep some of the toppings separate until you’re ready to eat.
Mix the Greek yogurt, peanut butter powder and honey together and portion it into airtight containers. Add the strawberry jam if you’d like, then refrigerate.
When you’re ready to eat, add the fresh strawberries and peanut butter drizzle.
The yogurt mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days, depending on the freshness and storage recommendations of the yogurt you’re using.
If you’re making several at once, this is such an easy grab-and-go breakfast to have ready for the week.
What Other Fruit Can I Use?
Strawberries are my favorite because they really give this that classic peanut butter and strawberry jelly flavor, but you have plenty of options.
Try raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, banana slices or even a combination of berries.
You could also match the fresh fruit to whatever jam you’re using.
Can I Use Regular Peanut Butter in the Yogurt?
Absolutely.
Peanut butter powder mixes really easily into Greek yogurt and is an easy way to add peanut flavor, but regular creamy peanut butter works too.
You may need to stir it a little more to get everything completely combined, and the consistency will be richer and thicker.
More Easy High-Protein Breakfast Ideas
If you’re trying to make mornings a little easier, this is such a good recipe to add to the rotation. It’s quick enough to make on the spot but also easy to prep ahead for the week.
Pair it with your morning coffee, make it as an afternoon snack, or even turn it into a healthier dessert when you’re craving something sweet.
PB&J will always be one of those nostalgic combinations, and turning it into a creamy, high-protein yogurt bowl might be one of my favorite ways to eat it.
