Kenskey's Room Makeover

This year for Kensley’s 12th birthday she asked for a room makeover. I was so excited and immediately started creating vision boards and planning the whole thing out. She told me she wanted a Modern Teen Bedroom with a boho flare. It didn’t hit me until now, right now as I sit here and write this post, that this is the LAST time I will ever redecorate her room! How? Why? Why do they have to grow up

I mean, think about it-

First it’s the nursery and then we kinda add a few big girl touches and then we change it up when they start school and are making decisions on what they do and don”t like. And now…..now this- a room perfect for a PRE-TEEN! So sad.

Kensley is definetly into the whole boho vibe. She loves terracotta and femine touches without being overly girly. I do think the boho phase is fading so I wanted to keep it simple and not add any of those more trendier pieces.

After I decide on a color theme, I always pick out the rug first. The rug is really the center piece of the room and I just kind of build out from there.

Her walls were a very dark gray before we painted them and it made the room so so dark. I wanted to lighten it up as much as possible. I went with Alabaster by Sherwin Williams for the white and the terracotta is actually Copper Trail. I am not sure who makes the color, but we just ordered it again in Sherwin Williams in an egg shell finish.

To paint the shape on the wall we just measured the desk, went out 20 more inches and then found the center (top to bottom) of the wall. We then just used painters tape to run the line to the bottom and top of the wall. I was worried the paint would leak through so after we pushed down the tape we added one thin line of the white paint down the crease of the tape so that if it did bleed throuh, it would only be the white. Then we let it dry and went right over it with the copper trail.

I love nautral woods- I wanted the room to be soft and subtle. Her desk and dresser are both from target (linked bellow). The fig tree is just a fakey from HSN. And her chair is from amazon (linked bellow).

Picking out bedding can sometimes be one of the hardest parts about designing a room. I always suggest mixing up patterns and textures. Don’t worry if it all doesn’t match perfectly- matching is out of style, so just have fun with it! I have linked all of the bedding bellow!

I truly had so much fun doing this and I know Kensley loves it. I hope you do too!

All of the decor is linked bellow!
